A recent study by a Georgia-based consumer research firm questioned more than two hundred residential roofing customers and found that an overwhelming majority (over 70%) reported a noticeable improvement in their homes’ value after installing a new roof. The improvements ranged from barely noticeable to increasing home equity ten-fold. The most common improvement noticed was a thicker, newer, and straighter glass, often applied to the second, third or even fourth story of a house. Another improvement noted was a higher gloss appearance to the roof surface, typically applied to both the first and second story. Other roof surface materials such as asphalt, tiles, or slate were also used but applied on only one or two stories. And, significantly, most of these homeowners said they were happy with their decision to replace or repair their roofs, even if the replacement or repair involves significantly more expense than simply repairing a few loose shingles.

The most common reason people replace or repair their roofs is because it’s worn out, but this can also result from age (as with most other surfaces) or from the constant threat of severe weather damage (such as hail, strong wind, and even ice). Regardless of the cause, the end result is the same: a home that looks better, feels better, and performs better under the extreme conditions that our homes are exposed to. And while a new roof is certainly more expensive than a simple repair, it can be far less costly than a total gutting and rebuilding of your entire home. Plus, when your new roof is properly installed and you’re using the right products, you can enjoy the added visual appeal of a brand new roof that can completely transform the look of your home.

So if you’re looking for a way to make your home more attractive, consider replacing your old roof with a new one. If you’re not comfortable with doing the work yourself, contact a qualified roofing company to do the work for you. You can get some great quotes online before you make any decisions, so be sure to check out various prices and options. Also, when you’re considering all of the ways in which a new roof can improve the appearance and performance of your home, be sure to also consider the safety and durability of a new roof. A roofer can explain all of these options to you, so be sure to ask questions and learn as much as possible about the process and materials that are going to be used for your new roof.
