Maintaining the proper chemistry in your pool is definitely not an easy process. In this guide we’re going to go through everything that you need to keep your pool clean and to manage the balance of the water accordingly.
Proper Water Balance
In order to reach the proper chemical harmony inside your pool, you need to appropriately balance the water. The pH level in your pool water needs to be between 7.4 and 7.6 which is slightly above a neutral level on pH scale. To achieve these levels you can use a calcium, alkaline and pH mixture.
Various items will affect the pH balance inside your water. If you have new swimmers over, heavy rains, get too much sun, or if you change the chemicals in your pool, it’s bound to affect the pH balance.
Alkalinity ranges in levels between 100 ppm and 150 ppm. It offers a buffer for pH and it absorbs many of the changes that the water takes on without affecting the pH. Alkalinity increases to ensure that there can be less fluctuation especially when you’re regularly adding into the water.
Calcium hardness ranges from 175 ppm to 300 ppm. Without proper calcium, you will eventually start to see hard water spots along the pool walls and floor. This can often lead to added strain on your filter and cause ongoing scaling which will mean you’ll have to clean your pool more often.
In order to properly balance these factors you’ll need to use pool testing kits at least once a week to twice a week on average. If you’re having difficulty with managing the pool chemistry you might even need to test every day. It’s also wise to consider testing after a major weather event or 24 hours after you’ve shocked your pool.
